Prima Donna Lingerie Review Spring 2021

In the shorter days of February, summer feels like an awfully long way away. You can add a touch of spring colour to brighten up the gloomiest of days with the latest collection from Prima Donna. These delightful shades are accompanied by new and recoloured styles in neutral shades that will compliment while being wearable all season long.

Spring starts with a bold pop of colour. The Prima Donna Delight is a favourite collection that has been recoloured several times and always proves to be very popular with its excellent fit and pretty tonal embroidery.

In addition to the supportive full cup bra, this collection has a pretty balcony bra with a centre seam to lift the breasts giving a softly rounded decolletage.  This bra is semi-sheer with light padding, if you are looking for something more modest the T-shirt bra has full coverage with its light foam cups.  The embroidery is placed at the side of the cup so that it will not show through when you are wearing a form-hugging top or dress.

The briefs in the Prima Donna Delight collection are the classic cuts that Prima Donna is well known for, rio brief, full briefs, thong and luxury thong.  We also see these styles in other ranges including the new Prima Donna Alalia.

Prima Donna lingerie has a reputation for elegant embroidery combines with considered colour blends and the Alalia typifies this.  It’s available in two colours, Spring Blossom and Silk, there is no doubt that the silk is pretty but these colours or very similar have been showing up in Prima Donna collections for many seasons.  For us at Plums Lingerie it is the Spring Blossom that is the ‘don’t miss it’ for this spring/summer.

There are three bra styles in the Prima Donna Alalia range, the most popular is the full cup as it fits so many ladies, then the plunge bra where the centre gore is much lower and so it’s not suitable if you have very full breasts that sit close together. Finally, there is the padded balcony bra, which is high in the centre but lower cut across the bust than the full cup bra.  The padding is very light but gives a great shape without making the bust look larger.

As Covid hit last March Prima Donna had to reshuffle their summer collections for the 2020 season, this meant that some of the collections that we were expecting to see were cancelled and moved to this year. One of the collections that we are very pleased to see survive the cull is the Prima Donna Hyde Park, only one of the two colours made it but the Sabbia will no doubt be very popular.  The soft muted taupe is enhanced by a smattering of romantic dusky pink which is shown off beautifully in the balcony bra.  This style has a strip of transparent tulle at the top of the cup giving a sense of lightness without sacrificing any support. The design is refreshing as it isn’t the classic lace or floral embroidery. The embroidery teamed with the subtle print of the full cup and briefs makes this collection ideal if you are looking to add to your everyday wardrobe.

The other neutral-toned collections include the new Prima Donna Magnolia, available in white and light tan.  The pretty lace looks gorgeous and fresh but if you are wearing a fine summer top there will be a bit of show through.  The collection includes a deep plunge balcony bra and a wireless bra,  two styles that are becoming increasingly popular. The deep plunge is low at the front but has a wide back and boning at the side.  We sell very few of these and I’m not convinced they are the most comfortable option even though they look great.  The wireless bra is ideal if you are looking for something comfortable that will still give you some support and shape.

However well made a wireless bra is you will not get as much support as you do with the underwire bra.  Another alternative if you are looking for a white bra is the Prima Donna Sophora.  This strong graphic pattern on both bras looks beautiful and pair with the hot pants to get the full impact of the design.

If you are looking for a simpler, more classic design the Prima Donna Gamila has a subtle embroidery on the top of the cup and a smooth lower 3 part which has a delicate print.  This collection has one style of bra which is designed for support and comfort, the top of the cup has stretch so it sits flat against the breast which is ideal if you are a little shallow. Originally I wasn’t going to add this collection to the website as there are other white collections available but its simplicity won me over.  Like all the new collections this season we have yet to see them in real life.  Covid has meant that we have been buying over zoom meetings.

One collection that I have definitely decided to not add is the Prima Donna Figuras. This is a smooth seam-free collection that is available in an attractive powder rose or black.  Prima Donna Lingerie already has three seam-free collections available and I am not sure that a fourth is necessary.  The Prima Donna Every Woman has a wider range of colours, the Prima Donna Perle has shapewear in caffe latte and black and the Prima Donna Satin has a loyal following for its seamless full cup bra. Without being able to see if the fit of the collection I am not in a position to advise you on if it would work so until I can this collection will not be featured on the Plums Lingerie website.

Considering the current situation the recoloured collections are well received.  Knowing how a collection will fit and what sizes and shapes it suits gives us the confidence to be able to advise you.  It’s particularly pleasing when the recolours bring something new to a long-standing collection such as the Prima Donna Madison. The new bluebell enhances the design of the Prima Donna Madison with the white and blue chequer fabric teamed with a fresh white lace it is delightfully spring-like.  The new styles of briefs with the added lace make this one of the prettiest Madison fashion colours I have ever seen.

If you like a bolder blue then the Prima Donna Orlando in jelly blue is a fun bright turquoise.  There was a similar, but more subtle turquoise that came out in the Prima Donna Deauville a few seasons ago.  The fit of both collections is nearly identical so if you are a dedicated Deauville fan it is worth trying the Orlando as it will open up your choice of colours and the embroidery sits flatter against the skin.

If you are a fan of bright colours the Prima Donna Wildflower is now available in Lemon Sorbet a soft buttery cream accented with bright sunshine yellow floral embroidery.  The full cup bra will give you the support while the plunge front bra dips in the centre and separates the breasts.

Every season the most anticipated recolour is of the Prima Donna Deauville and this summer you will not be disappointed.  The colour is called silky tan but it is more of a gentle blush with soft teal, taupe, blush and gold embroidery, making this a very special collection.  The photos don’t do it justice and you can’t see the detail in all its glory. No doubt this will be very popular and if you are a fan of the shorts I’d recommend ordering them as early as possible to avoid missing out.  They sold-out within a few weeks in the last couple of seasons.

We are very excited for the season ahead and the gorgeous new arrivals.  We’d love to hear what you think of the new collection in the comments.
