How To Wash Your Lingerie

When you’ve invested in your lingerie the care you take when laundering it can make a huge difference to the look and life of your favourite bra, or silkiest slip. Busy lifestyles make convenience so important and it is so tempting to throw in your lingerie with the rest of the wash not only can your lingerie suffer, but so can your washing machine.  Once stray underwire can jam in the drum of your washing machine resulting in an expensive repair job or even a new machine.

To help you keep your lingerie and lovelies looking good and making you feel great we have a few tips for you.

Hand Wash

This tip is usually greeted less than enthusiastically, it sounds like such an effort and to be fair it’s not the quickest option but it will add months more wears to your bras and help keep lace and silks looking as good as new.

Hand Wash Your Bras

  • To make the job as easy as possible we recommend using Soak Lingerie Wash, this little gem is ideal for all your delicates.  Not only does it smell gorgeous, but it is also simple to use.
  • Fill a bowl with warm water and add a small amount of Soak.
  • Pop in your bras, keeping similar colours together, and give them a swish around.
  • Leave for 15 mins, get on with something else or make a nice cup of tea.
  • After 15 mins, pull out your bras and give them a gentle squeeze to get rid of the excess water.
  • Avoid twisting or wringing as this can damage the fabric and elastic. Use a towel to blot dry.Soak Lingerie Wash

Using A Washing Machine

  • If you are using a washing machine a lingerie wash bag will contain the bras. Don’t overload the bag as the bras will need space to move around to get clean.
  • Do up the hook and eye fastenings at the back to avoid the hooks catching or tearing.
  • Wash your matching bras and briefs together as this will help them stay the same colour as each other.
  • Use a gentle hand wash cycle and a washing powder or liquid designed for delicates.
  • Avoid fabric softeners for all your lingerie as they degrade elastic.

Drying Your Lingerie

  • Hang your bras over a rack using the centre gore in between the two cups. This will help keep the shape of the bra.  If you hang the bra by the straps to dry it will result in your straps being stretched.
  • Avoid the tumble dryer at all costs.  The heat of the dryer will melt the elastic and damage any lace or embroidery.
